Sound DESIGN

While attending Colorado Mesa University, I spent quite some time working with our sound department. I started first as an A2 for She Kills monsters, and I grew to love being a part of more and more productions that I just kept signing up for it. Sound design, and engineering adds such a powerful element to every production. Sound is used to bring everyone into the world of the play, and for just a moment it truly helps suspend disbelief that they are watching a show. When it is done right even a wacky animated world could feel like the real one. I have taken all of CMU’s courses on Sound design, and I even branched out so another part through my milestone class “Sketch and compose”, where I learned some of the finer parts of scoring with the aid of sound mixing technology (not the intended purpose of the class, but it was a very key take away). This has led to me scoring some of more own motion graphic projects for my graphic design work and prepared me for some of my own designs.

My first official sound design was for Room Service, written by Allen Boretz and John Murray. Directed by Benjamin Reigel during our ‘come out and laugh’ season he wanted to gear the creative vision of the production towards an animated style of  theatre. Inspired by Looney Tunes, and the like of Rubber hose comedic cartoons.  To read more about this production  please check out my dedicated page where I also have a sample of the soundscape (which I also have on my YouTube channel).
