ROOM SERVICE

WRITTEN BY ALLEN BORETZ, AND JOHN MURRAY
DIRECTED BY BENJAMIN REIGEL

Our production of Room Service was apart of our post quarantine line up of feel good shows. One of our key elements for going into these productions was to make sure we make the art good, and the comedy laugh worthy. Another note like I mentioned in my page on my work in sound design, this production was highly inspired by comedy from the time of the play especially the cartoons. As such a lot of the sounds were inspired by the foley sound effects for cartoons such as Looney Tunes, and Who framed Roger Rabbit. Especially some of the songs we used leading in and out of scenes.

From there the show started to take shape following the theme of being a part of some radio show, and when we came in and out of scenes we used the sounds similar to radio static while trying to find a channel which would either go into the transition music, or a recorded radio bit from Abbott and Costello where we had some student record their reading of the script. As well as other radio comedy bits from the time.

Sadly I can’t just play recordings of the show to then relay to here because we could not record our productions, however with my leftover files, and some photos from the productions I was able to mix and put together an audio visual version to still get the idea across.

We did not change our speaker system how ever for this production, and as such I did not create a speaker plot. Otherwise I would have included it to show more for the portfolio.
